Our group is making a video that tells the story of New Mexico Jones. He is searching for Newton's grave, the secrets of calculus and the lost calculator, but is met with many obstacles. He needs to use calculus to beat these obstacles. The problems types will be: curve sketching, optimization, and related rates. Robbie:Editing, acting (“Louisiana Stone”…because only he is evil enough to capture this character’s malice) Cory:Acting (New Mexico Jones…This is a massive task; therefore, Cory must be at all times focused on mastering his character and cannot be held responsible for contributing in any other way). Tracey:Lighting, make-up, costumes, stage directions and all other elements that will make for a fabulous production Sarah…(a.k.a. the only one of us with actual calculus skills): problem creation/solutions Chris:The “lackey” …responsible for all the manual labor such as, heavy lifting, stunt-double work, and dangerous filming scenarios…..(and yes, there will be great danger…be prepared!)
1). Scene 1: The evil "Louisiana Stone" threatens the future of the world by announcing his plot to capture the world secrets of calculus and gain ultimate power by possessing the lost titanium calculator. "Louisiana Stone" MUST BE STOPPED! None other but New Mexico Jones holds the advanced calculus skills necessary to defeat "Louisiana Stone" and journey the perilous path that leads to the tomb of Sir Issac Newton.
2.) Scene 2:New Mexico Jones first task is to choose the appropriate map that will lead him to the tomb. In order the choose the map with the accurate tomb marking, he must solve a curve sketching equation by finding the first and second derivative and draw the function on a closed interval. The equation is
f(x)=-2xsin(3x) 3.)Scene 3:New Mexico Jones now holds the path to Newton’s tombs but lacks a mode of transportation to journey there. He must now use only the materials provided to create a raft with the maximum area in order to carry himself and the lost titanium calculator’s undisclosed gargantuan volume. 4.)Scene 4:New Mexico Jones has succeeded in building his master raft; however, he finds himself trapped in a cave of death. The water in the cave continues to increase and New Mexico Jones must figure out how much time he has to live before his seemingly inevitable death.Upon calculating the correct answer to the related rates problem, New Mexico Jones must pull a lever label with the correct answer to release the water and escape the cave of terror. 5.) Scene 5:New Mexico Jones arrives at the tomb only to find he has yet one more obstacle to overcome… the evil “Louisiana Stone”.After their dramatic (and by God it will be dramatic) fight scene New Mexico Jones meets a surprising fate. The ending will soon be revealed!!!!
